Big Fireworks During July 2 Failure of Proton-M Rocket

A Proton-M rocket carrying three GLONASS-M satellites plunged to the ground less than a minute after launch. The rocket was seen to sway and spin before losing its nose and exploding in flames. The launch July 2, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, was the second failure in 6 months for a Proton-M using a Block DM-03 upper stage.

Early reports indicate no one on the ground was injured. The cause of the failure is under investigation.
