APL Tech Splash: Robotic Lunar Lander

Introducing APL’s Tech Splash: A series of short videos that explore some of the Laboratory’s notable innovations and ideas.

Over the last several years, APL has developed technologies to allow low cost robotic missions to perform autonomous precision landings on airless bodies such as the Moon, asteroids and comets. The development efforts included field tests to evaluate optical terrain relative navigation algorithms and the construction and testing, in collaboration with the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, of the Mighty Eagle, a prototype lander testbed.
